The art in “art of Tease”
Cryptid chameleon royalty of the Australian Burlesque Industry and powerhouse art maker of over 16 years, Bella de Jac has been crowned Mx Burlesque Australia 2015, and named twice in the Top 50 most influential burlesque performers in the world.
With a love for the origins of burlesque as both of satire and of striptease they are as accomplished in their classically glamorous strip-acts, as they are in creating absolutely bonkers art. They’ve toured across the US, UK, Australia & New Zealand as a renowned educator and chaos creator.
Bella has a special affinity for monsters, creatures and humans who subvert expectations and he creates a space for both audiences and students that is equal measures sensual, playful, insightful, and free of inhibition.
Previous work has included;
Touring as whip-cracking bimbo & naked screaming goat in "Le Freak - The Show"
Terrorising delighted audience members as a vagina dentata monster
Playing naked jump rope on stage touring with Baby Got Back
Re-enacting the Birth of Venus as an exhibit with the Living Museum of Erotic Women
Hosting their show “Season of The Witch” & “The Witching Hour” in co-production under Your Weird Aunts Creative
Core cast member for a full decade playing the Queen of The Underground with Fetish Burlesque show & immersive saga “The Burlesque Underground”
With a quite frankly, silly number of awards and accolades, their art has seen them touring around the world, headlining countless events, and expanding their work into performing arts education for stagecraft, technique and theory. During a 2019 performance tour across the UK they caused a stir with their introductory lecture on Burlesque history and the social politics of striptease at New College in Oxford, demonstrating that even talking about stripping away clothes has a knack for revealing more than just skin.
When they’re not upsetting the status quo they also spend their time working behind the scenes as outside eye & direction for stage, stage managing, producing, writing, and dreaming.
